Akawui is a Canadian songwriter-composer-performer of Chilean and Mapuche Indigenous origin. He was introduced to South American folk music at a very young age. It is through that experience, as well as his Indigenous cultural heritage that his musical blending is inspired. Performing most often in Spanish, Akawui has found a unique sound in Latin/alternative/urban music. It fuses hip-hop, rock, elements of electronic music as well as folk songs and sounds from around the world. For urban alternative music lovers of the world, this artist unifies the tribal with the modern. His texts carry a committed message that tells the reality of various communities and highlights the human condition. On stage, Akawui offers a dynamic performance, both powerful and tender.
